Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman Set to Wow at the 2024 Grammy Awards: A Performance Not to Be Missed

  • by

According to a report from Variety, Luke Combs is set to perform alongside Tracy Chapman at the Grammy Awards in 2024. Tracy Chapman, who doesn't usually make public appearances, might be making an exception for this event.

According to sources familiar with the musicians, Variety has reported that Chapman and Luke Combs will be performing "Fast Car" together on stage. The song was originally a folk-pop hit by Chapman in the late 1980s, telling the story of a couple trying to break free from poverty. In 2023, Combs included a cover of the song on his album Gettin' Old, which helped it reach the top of the country radio charts.

If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it will be unexpected and probably one of the most discussed moments of the event. As reported by Variety, she has only appeared in front of cameras three times since 2009, when she finished her last tour.

Combs has expressed his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and artist. Although his team stated that there are currently no plans for a joint performance with Chapman, Combs would be thrilled if the opportunity arose in the future.

Although she has not been very visible in the public eye during the song's comeback, Chapman has released a few statements showing her support for Combs' success with "Fast Car." When the song reached number one on the country charts, she expressed her happiness for Combs and thanked a new group of fans for embracing her song. She mentioned that she never thought her song would be on the country charts, but she feels honored to be included.

During the 2023 CMA Awards in November, "Fast Car" was awarded Song of the Year. This honor is given to songwriters, and in this case, it was awarded to Chapman, marking her as the first Black woman to win CMA Song of the Year as a solo songwriter. Although Chapman was not present at the ceremony, a message from her was read out loud from the stage after her win was announced.

"I regret not being able to join you all tonight. It is a great privilege for my song to be acknowledged again after 35 years since it was first released. Thank you to the CMAs and a heartfelt thank you to Luke and all the supporters of 'Fast Car.'"

Combs' song "Fast Car" has been nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at this year's Grammys. This nomination is his seventh at the awards show. If he wins, it will be his first Grammy award.

The Grammy Awards in 2024 will be broadcasted from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The event will be shown on CBS and also available for live streaming on Paramount+.
