According to insiders familiar with the situation, Variety has reported that Chapman and Luke Combs will be performing "Fast Car" together on stage. This song was originally a folk-pop hit from the late 1980s by Chapman, telling the story of a couple trying to break free from poverty. In 2023, Combs included a cover of the song on his album Gettin' Old, which led to his version of "Fast Car" topping the country radio charts.
If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it will be a major surprise and probably one of the most discussed moments of the evening. As reported by Variety, she has only appeared in front of cameras three times since 2009, when she finished her last tour.
However, Combs has been open about his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and artist. In July, after his country cover reached No. 1, his team released a statement saying that while there were no current plans for a collaboration with Chapman, Combs would be thrilled if the opportunity presented itself in the future.
Even though she has not been very visible in public discussions about the song's sudden popularity, Chapman has made a few comments expressing her support for Combs' success with "Fast Car."
