Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman Set to Wow Audiences at the 2024 Grammy Awards: A Must-See Performance of “Fast Car

  • by

According to a report from Variety, there is a possibility that Tracy Chapman will make a rare appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she might perform alongside Luke Combs.

According to insiders, Variety has reported that Chapman and Luke Combs will perform together on stage, singing Chapman's hit song "Fast Car" from the late 1980s. The song tells the story of a couple trying to break free from a cycle of poverty. Combs included a cover of the song on his 2023 album Gettin' Old, which helped it reach the top of the country radio charts.

If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it will be a significant and highly anticipated moment of the event. Sources say that she has only performed in front of cameras three times since 2009, which was the end of her last tour.

However, Combs has openly expressed his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and recording artist. Despite his team stating that there are currently no plans for a collaboration with Chapman, they mentioned that he would be thrilled if the opportunity presented itself.

Although she hasn't been in the spotlight much since her song gained popularity again, Chapman has made a few statements expressing her support for Combs' success with "Fast Car." When the song reached No. 1 on the country charts, she mentioned that she was "happy" for Combs and appreciative of a new group of fans enjoying her music. She also mentioned feeling honored to be on the country charts, even though she never expected it.

During the 2023 CMA Awards in November, "Fast Car" was awarded Song of the Year. This specific award is given to songwriters, and in this case, it was awarded to Chapman. This made her the first Black woman to win the CMA Song of the Year as the sole songwriter. Chapman was not present at the ceremony, but she did send a message to be read out loud after her win was announced.

"I apologize for not being able to join you all tonight. It is a great honor for my song to be acknowledged again after 35 years since its release. I am grateful to the CMAs and especially to Luke and all the fans of 'Fast Car' for their support."

Combs' song "Fast Car" has been nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at the Grammys this year. This nomination is his seventh at the event, and if he wins, it will be his first Grammy award.

The 2024 Grammy Awards will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on February 4, 2024. The event will be televised on CBS and also available for live streaming on Paramount+.
