According to insiders familiar with the situation, it has been reported by Variety that Chapman and Luke Combs will be performing "Fast Car" together on stage. "Fast Car" is a folk-pop hit from the late 1980s by Chapman that tells the story of a couple trying to break free from the cycle of poverty. The song was unexpectedly covered by Combs in 2023 on his Gettin' Old album, which propelled his version of "Fast Car" to the top of the country radio charts.
If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it will be unexpected and probably a highlight of the night. Variety reports that she has only been on camera three times since 2009, when she finished her last tour.
However, Combs has been open about his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and singer. Despite the country cover reaching No. 1 in July, his team stated that there are currently no plans for a collaboration with Chapman.
