According to a report from Variety, there is a possibility that Tracy Chapman will make a rare public appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards where she is expected to perform alongside Luke Combs.
According to insiders familiar with the situation, Variety has revealed that Chapman and Luke Combs will be performing "Fast Car" together. This song, originally released by Chapman in the late 1980s, tells the story of a couple trying to break free from a cycle of poverty. Surprisingly, Combs included a cover of this song on his album Gettin' Old in 2023, which then became a hit on country radio charts.
If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it would be unexpected and probably a highlight of the night. Reportedly, she has only performed in front of cameras three times since 2009, when she finished her last tour.
Combs has openly expressed his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and recording artist. Despite his cover of the song reaching No. 1 in July, his team stated that there are currently no plans for him to perform with Chapman. However, they mentioned that he would be thrilled if the opportunity to perform together ever came up.
Although she has mostly stayed away from the spotlight during the song's comeback, Chapman has made a few statements showing her support for Combs' success with "Fast Car." When the song reached No. 1 on the country charts, she expressed her happiness for Combs and her gratitude for a new group of fans who are enjoying her song. She mentioned that she never imagined being on the country charts, but she feels honored to be there.
During the 2023 CMA Awards in November, the song "Fast Car" was awarded Song of the Year. This award is given only to songwriters, so the recognition went to Chapman, who became the first Black woman to win CMA Song of the Year as the sole songwriter. Although Chapman was not present at the ceremony, a message from her was read out loud from the stage after her win was announced.

Combs' song "Fast Car" has been nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at this year's Grammy Awards. This nomination is his seventh at the Grammys, and if he wins, it will be his first Grammy win.
The Grammy Awards in 2024 will be broadcasted from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on February 4th, 2024. The event will be aired on CBS and can also be streamed live on Paramount+.
