The lyrics in question were taken from a song called "Cocky" by Rock in 2001, which was part of his album with the same title. In this particular verse, the lyrics mention Rock introducing himself as Kid Rock from the old school, boasting about having more money than Matchbox Twenty and getting more attention from women than Mark McGrath.

Shortly after that, Finn McKenty, a well-known YouTuber, proposed that Mark McGrath should be the one to resolve the argument. McKenty also mentioned McGrath from the band Sugar Ray in his suggestion.
McGrath responded to the question with a sense of humor, confirming that the person did indeed rhyme "ass" with McGrath. The singer made this response through X, which was formerly known as Twitter.
