  • by

Walmart is expanding its presence by opening more large stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations. Their strategy involves both opening new stores and expanding existing locations.

CNBC stated that the company plans to construct or change over 150 "big-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. As per the Associated Press, Walmart has not launched any new stores within the last three years.

What does a Walmart that is considered "large-format" look like? Walmart has shared press images of its Supercenter design for these planned stores, but has not disclosed the specific cities where they will be located.

Walmart announced that some locations will feature their new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access product information. The company was already in the process of remodeling 650 other locations to incorporate this concept before making the announcement on Wednesday.

Walmart CEO John Furner stated that the investments made by Walmart in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and provide benefits to the communities where Walmart operates.

CNBC reported that the company did not disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability in their design. These locations will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout to promote environmental consciousness.

Aside from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart is planning to upgrade its parking lot as well. The company has announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country to make owning an EV more convenient and accessible for both shoppers and employees. This initiative aims to make EV ownership a more viable option for those who visit Walmart.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and a workforce of almost 1.6 million individuals.
