Walmart’s Bold Expansion Plan: Large Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for a Sustainable Future

  • by

Walmart is planning to expand by adding more large stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations at some of their current locations.

According to CNBC, the company plans to construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press mentioned that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

What does a Walmart Supercenter with a 'large-format' look like? Walmart has released press images showcasing the design of these planned stores, but has not disclosed the locations of where they will be built.

Walmart announced that some locations will feature the company's new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for scanning to access extra product details. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations to incorporate this concept.

According to a statement from Walmart's president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and have positive impacts on the communities they operate in.

According to CNBC, the company chose not to disclose the financial details regarding the cost of the stores.

Walmart has stated that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the locations.

Apart from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart is planning to revamp its parking lot by installing fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is working on creating a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country. This is intended to make owning an electric vehicle more convenient and accessible for both Walmart customers and employees.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has almost 1.6 million employees.
