Walmart is expanding its presence by opening new stores and expanding current locations, as well as adding electric vehicle charging stations.

CNBC announced that the company plans to either construct or remodel over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. As per the Associated Press, Walmart has not introduced any new stores in the last three years.

What does a Walmart Supercenter with a "large-format" look like? Walmart has shared press images of the design for these planned stores, but they have not disclosed which cities they will be in.

Walmart announced that certain locations will feature their new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for extra details about products. The company was already in the process of renovating 650 locations to incorporate this concept before making the announcement on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart president and CEO John Furner stated that the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue benefit the communities where they operate. These efforts amount to millions of dollars in capital investment.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart is planning to incorporate sustainability into their new stores by using energy-efficient lighting and equipment.

Aside from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart is also planning to make changes to its parking lot. They announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country to make owning an EV more convenient and accessible for both customers and employees.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
