  • by

Walmart is expanding its presence by opening new large stores and adding electric vehicle charging stations to some of its current locations.

CNBC announced that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. As stated by the Associated Press, Walmart has not opened any new stores within the last three years.

Walmart has shared images of its Supercenter design for their upcoming "large-format" stores. The company has not disclosed which cities will be home to these new stores.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in certain locations, which will include more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for more information on products. The company was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations to include this concept before the recent announcement.

Walmart president and CEO John Furner stated in a release on Wednesday that the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars, benefiting the communities where their stores are located.

CNBC reported that the company did not disclose the expenses associated with operating the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment in their design.

Aside from the sustainable initiatives indoors, Walmart is working on revamping its parking lot. The company has announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is working on creating a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country. The goal is to make owning an electric vehicle more convenient and accessible for both Walmart customers and employees.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
