Walmart’s Expansion Plan: Adding ‘Large’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for a Sustainable Future

  • by

Walmart is expanding by adding more large stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations. They have a strong strategy to grow their retail presence by opening new stores and expanding existing ones.

According to CNBC, the company plans to either construct new or renovate over 150 "large-format" stores in the United States over the course of the next five years. The Associated Press also noted that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Images provided by Walmart display the design of its Supercenter for the upcoming "large-format" stores. The specific locations of these stores have not been announced by the company yet.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in certain locations, which will include more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for more information about products. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations to incorporate this concept.

In a statement released by Walmart president and CEO John Furner on Wednesday, it was mentioned that the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars, benefiting the communities in which they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the expenses associated with the stores.

Walmart has revealed plans to design their new stores with sustainability in focus. These locations will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the store.

Besides focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to revamp its parking lot by adding fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is working on creating a network of electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country to make it easier for Walmart customers and employees to own and use electric vehicles. This change is aimed at making EV ownership more convenient and accessible for everyone involved.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of around 1.6 million individuals.
