Walmart’s Expansion Plans: ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

  • by

Walmart is expanding by adding more large stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations. They have a strong strategy to grow their store presence and improve existing locations.

CNBC announced that the company plans to either construct new or transform over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

What does a Walmart Supercenter with a "large-format" look like? Walmart has shared press images of its design for these planned stores, but they have not disclosed the specific locations yet.

Walmart announced that their stores will now feature the "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access more information about products. Before this announcement, the retail giant was already in the process of remodeling 650 locations to incorporate this concept.

According to a statement made by Walmart president and CEO John Furner on Wednesday, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and provide benefits to the communities in which they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the amount spent on the stores.

Walmart is incorporating sustainability into their new stores by ensuring they are designed with energy-efficient lighting and equipment.

Apart from focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to transform its parking lot. The company announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is creating a coast-to-coast network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations to make owning an electric vehicle more convenient and accessible for Walmart customers and employees.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
