Walmart’s Expansion Plans: ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations – A Look Into the Future of Retail Shopping

  • by

Walmart is expanding their retail footprint by adding more large stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations. Their strategy involves both opening new stores and expanding current locations.

According to CNBC, the company plans to construct or repurpose over 150 "large-format" stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press also noted that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

The design of Walmart's Supercenter for their new "large-format" stores can be seen in press images. The company has not disclosed which cities these stores will be in yet.

Walmart announced that they will be introducing their "Store of the Future" concept in more locations, which will include additional displays and QR codes for scanning to access more product information. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of remodeling 650 locations to include this concept.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart's president and CEO John Furner mentioned that the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars. These investments have positive impacts on the communities where Walmart operates.

According to CNBC, the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has stated that their new stores will prioritize sustainability in their design. These stores will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the locations.

Apart from focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to update its parking lot. They have announced their intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars in the area.

Walmart is planning to create a nationwide network of affordable fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in order to make it easier for Walmart shoppers and employees to own and use EVs. This initiative is aimed at making EV ownership more convenient and accessible for everyone involved.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
