  • by

Walmart is expanding their stores and adding electric vehicle charging stations as part of their plan for growth.

According to CNBC, the company plans to construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press noted that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Images released by Walmart showcase the Supercenter design for their upcoming "large-format" stores. The company has not disclosed the specific locations of these stores in which they will be situated.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in various locations, which will include more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access additional product information. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of remodeling 650 locations to include this new concept.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart president and CEO John Furner emphasized the significant investments made in labor, supplies, and tax revenue by Walmart, which ultimately benefit the communities where their stores are located.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the expenses associated with the stores.

Walmart has revealed plans to build new stores with a focus on sustainability. These locations will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment to reduce energy consumption.

Apart from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart is also planning to upgrade its parking lot. The company aims to install quick-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is working on creating a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations to make it easier for Walmart customers and employees to own electric vehicles.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of nearly 1.6 million employees.
