Expanding Horizons: Walmart’s Plan for ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Walmart is expanding by adding more stores and expanding some of their current locations.

CNBC announced that the company plans to construct or remodel over 150 big stores in various locations in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores for the past three years.

What does a "large-format" Walmart store look like? Walmart has released press images showcasing the design of its Supercenter for these planned stores. The locations of these stores have not been disclosed by the company yet.

Walmart announced that certain locations will feature their "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for extra product details. The company had already started remodeling 650 more locations to include this concept before the recent announcement on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart president and CEO John Furner stated that the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars, benefiting the communities in which they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the prices of the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment in their design.

Apart from focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to upgrade its parking lot. The company announced intentions to install quick-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is making plans to create a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle charging stations. The goal is to make it easier and more accessible for Walmart customers and employees to own and use electric vehicles.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of nearly 1.6 million employees.
