Exploring the Enhanced Audio Performance of Acustica Audio’s Amber 4 Ultra Plug-In Suite: A Comprehensive Review

  • by

You have arrived at the Amber 4 Ultra plug-in suite by Acustica Audio.

Acustica Audio has released a new version of their Amber 4 plug-in suite called Amber 4 Ultra. This updated version utilizes Hyper technology and the Aria engine to provide more accurate models of Class A gear, such as EQs, a compressor, and a preamp. The plug-in suite features improved graphics and audio performance compared to its predecessor.

The suite includes two EQ plug-ins called Amber 4 Ultra and Amber 4 Stereo Ultra. Both have the same controls, but the Stereo version has separate controls for each channel. Each plug-in has four bands with frequency and gain controls. The low- and high-mid bands have a width parameter, while the low- and high-frequency bands have a control that can switch between peak and shelf filter types.

Amber 4 Ultra has a continuous control that allows users to adjust mid, left/right, and side signals. On the other hand, Amber4 Stereo Ultra offers separate control over the left/mid and right/side channels. According to Acustica, the first option is a highly effective parametric EQ with minimal noise in the digital realm, while the second option is praised for its musical transparency among their EQ lineup.

The Amber 4 Comp Ultra simulates a Class-A opto compressor using Hyper technology to provide a clear dynamics processor. It includes typical compressor settings as well as extras like side-chain filtering, adjustable stereo linking, a blend control for mid, left/right, and side signals, and built-in parallel compression.

The Amber 4 Pre Ultra offers a variety of Class A preamp designs, including both solid-state and valve-based units. Each design comes with a simple set of controls for input and output levels, as well as options for Preamp gain and Filter high-pass settings.

With the introduction of the Aira engine, all of the plug-ins now have the ability to show dynamic and real-time metering displays, and also include the company's Anti-Aliasing algorithm. Additionally, they have lower CPU usage compared to the previous versions.

System Requirements

Amber 4 Ultra is compatible with Windows 10 and 11 for PC users, and macOS 10.15 and later for Mac users. It offers VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX plug-in versions.

The Amber 4 Ultra is currently available for purchase at an introductory price of €89 until February 26, 2024. After this date, the price will increase to €209.
