Jason Isbell Rocks the House with ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ at Jon Bon Jovi Tribute: A Look at the Epic Performance

  • by

View Jason Isbell's impressive performance of 'Wanted Dead or Alive' at a tribute event for Jon Bon Jovi. The performance was captured by Joseph Hudak.

At the MusiCares tribute to Jon Bon Jovi in Los Angeles on Friday night, Joseph Hudak noticed that Jason Isbell's appearance gave away the song he was about to perform. Isbell was wearing a big hat, a long coat, and holding a double-neck guitar, indicating that he would be playing "Wanted Dead or Alive".

Isbell admitted on Instagram that it is easy to tell which Bon Jovi song he covered just by looking at a picture.

Although Isbell may have looked more like Richie Sambora than Jon Bon Jovi, he gave a great performance, fully embracing the lyrics about seeing many faces and rocking them all sincerely. While Isbell is known for his impressive singing abilities, it was his guitar solo in his rendition of "Dead or Alive" that really stood out as an epic throwback to the Eighties.

Jon Bon Jovi was honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year, following in the footsteps of previous honorees such as Joni Mitchell, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, and Bruce Springsteen. Despite recently losing his mother, Springsteen was also present at the event. Both Springsteen and Bon Jovi performed together on stage, singing Bon Jovi's country hit "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and Springsteen's "The Promised Land."
