Jason Isbell Rocks ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ at Jon Bon Jovi Tribute: A Nostalgic Eighties-Throwback Epic

  • by

See Jason Isbell perform 'Wanted Dead or Alive' at a tribute event for Jon Bon Jovi. The performance was impressive and showcased Isbell's guitar skills. The event was covered by Joseph Hudak.

Joseph Hudak observed that it was easy to predict which song Jason Isbell was going to perform at the MusiCares tribute to Jon Bon Jovi in Los Angeles. Isbell's outfit, including a large-brimmed hat and long coat, along with his double-neck guitar, made it evident that he would be playing "Wanted Dead or Alive."

Isbell confirmed on Instagram on Saturday that it was clear which Bon Jovi song he covered just by looking at a picture he posted.

Although Isbell may have looked more like Richie Sambora than JBJ, he performed well by fully immersing himself in the lyrics about seeing many faces and rocking out without any irony. Isbell's vocal abilities are impressive, but it was his guitar solo in "Dead or Alive" that really stood out and gave the song an epic Eighties feel.

Jon Bon Jovi was honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year, following in the footsteps of previous honorees such as Joni Mitchell, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, and Bruce Springsteen. Despite recently losing his mother, Springsteen attended the event and even joined Bon Jovi on stage to perform a duet of their respective hits. The performance included Bon Jovi’s “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” and Springsteen’s “The Promised Land.”

Bon Jovi expressed gratitude to Bruce Springsteen, who recently lost his mother, for being present at the MusiCares event and for supporting him.
