Walmart’s Bold Expansion: Large-Format Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in the Works

Walmart is planning to expand its number of stores and enhance existing locations by adding more space and introducing electric vehicle charging stations.

According to CNBC, the company plans to either construct or repurpose over 150 large stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press also notes that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

What does a Walmart Supercenter with a 'large-format' design look like? Walmart has released press images showcasing the design for these planned stores, but they have not disclosed the specific cities where these stores will be located.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in certain locations, which will include more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for more product information. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations to incorporate this concept.

According to a statement released by Walmart president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and provide benefits to the communities where they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability in their design. They will incorporate energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout these locations.

Aside from their sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to upgrade their parking lot. They announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country to make it easier for Walmart customers and employees to own electric vehicles.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
