Walmart’s Expansion Plan: ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Walmart is planning to expand by opening new stores and expanding existing locations. Additionally, they will be adding electric vehicle charging stations to some of their stores.

According to CNBC, the company plans to either construct new or renovate over 150 large stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Images released by Walmart showcase the design of its Supercenter for the upcoming "large-format" stores. The company has not disclosed the specific cities where these stores will be situated.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in certain locations, which will include more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for more information about products. Prior to this announcement, Walmart had already started remodeling 650 locations to include this concept.

According to a statement released by Walmart president and CEO John Furner on Wednesday, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and have positive impacts on the communities they serve.

According to CNBC, the company did not disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has stated that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the locations.

Apart from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart also has plans to renovate its parking lot. They are looking to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country to make it easier for both customers and employees to own and use electric vehicles.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of nearly 1.6 million employees.
