Walmart is expanding its store presence by adding more large stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations. The company has a strong strategy to grow its number of locations and improve existing ones.
CNBC announced that the company plans to create or transform over 150 large stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.
What does a Walmart Supercenter with a "large-format" design look like? Walmart has shared press images of the design for these new stores, but has not disclosed the locations where they will be built.
Walmart announced that the locations will feature their new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access more information about products. Prior to the announcement on Wednesday, the retail giant was already in the process of remodeling 650 more locations to incorporate this concept.
According to Walmart president and CEO John Furner, the investments made by Walmart in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and bring benefits to the communities where they operate. This statement was released on Wednesday.
CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.
Walmart is planning to incorporate sustainability into their new stores by designing them with energy-efficient lighting and equipment. These changes aim to reduce energy consumption and promote environmental conservation.
Aside from focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to revamp its parking lot by adding fast-charging stations for electric cars.
