Walmart’s Expansion Plans: Large-Format Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for a Sustainable Future

Walmart is expanding by adding more stores and expanding existing locations. They are also planning to include electric vehicle charging stations in some of their stores.

CNBC announced that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 big stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

What does a "large-format" Walmart store look like? Walmart has released press images of its Supercenter design for these planned stores, but has not disclosed the cities where they will be located.

Walmart announced that they will be incorporating their "Store of the Future" concept in certain locations, which will feature more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access more product information. Prior to this announcement, the retail giant was already in the process of remodeling 650 other locations to include this concept.

According to a statement released by Walmart president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars, benefiting the communities in which they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the expenses associated with the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment into their design.

Besides focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to update its parking lot. They have announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations to make it easier for their customers and employees to own and use electric vehicles.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
