  • by

Walmart is planning to expand their retail footprint by opening new stores and expanding existing ones. Additionally, they will be installing electric vehicle charging stations at some of their locations.

CNBC announced that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 spacious stores throughout the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Images shared by Walmart show the design of their Supercenter for new "large-format" stores. Walmart has not disclosed the specific locations of these stores in cities yet.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in various locations, featuring more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for extra product details. The company was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations with this concept before the recent announcement.

According to a statement released by Walmart president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue have greatly benefited the communities they serve. These efforts have amounted to millions of dollars in capital investment.

According to CNBC, the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has also stated that their new stores will prioritize sustainability in their design. They will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the locations.

Aside from focusing on sustainability initiatives within its stores, Walmart is also planning to make changes to its parking facilities. Specifically, the company announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles across the country, in order to make it more convenient and accessible for both customers and employees to own an EV. This initiative is aimed at improving the overall experience of EV ownership for those who shop at Walmart.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
