Walmart’s Expansion Plans: New ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in the Works

Walmart is planning to expand their stores and enhance some of their current locations. This includes adding larger stores and installing electric vehicle charging stations.

CNBC announced that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 large stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Walmart has shared press images of its Supercenter design for its upcoming "large-format" stores. The company has not disclosed the specific cities where these stores will be located.

Walmart announced that certain locations will feature their new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access extra information about products. The company had already begun remodeling 650 other locations to incorporate this concept before the recent announcement.

According to a statement from Walmart's president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and bring benefits to the communities they serve.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment into their design.

Aside from focusing on sustainability indoors, Walmart is also planning to upgrade its parking lot by adding fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles across the country. The goal is to make owning an electric vehicle more convenient and accessible for both Walmart customers and employees.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
