For a limited period of time, you can purchase SubLab, a product by Future Audio Workshop, for only $10. NUSofting has recently launched a beta version of their experimental synthesizer plugin called Glitch Pad, which is available for free on Windows until the end of March.
The public beta version of Glitch Pad is currently accessible for 64-bit Windows users in both VST2 and VST3 formats.
NUSofting usually provides full-release plugins that are compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Therefore, Mac users will likely have the opportunity to participate in the action when the 1.0 release becomes available.
The history of the plugin can be traced back many years ago to the launch of the Glitch Pad SynC Modular patch in 2002.
Luigi, the founder of NUSofting, has recently modified the initial algorithm and developed an enhanced oscillator, leading to the creation of a brand new VST synthesizer.
The latest edition of the software is programmed in C++ from the ground up and can be accessed in its initial beta version through the developer's website, which is provided as a hyperlink below.
The beta version is completely operational and comes with 23 pre-established settings.
Luigi has simplified the process of downloading the plugin by making it a simple one-click action. Users do not have to provide any personal information or go through a login process to obtain the Zip file.
A demo of the Glitch Pad can be found on YouTube, although it is not an official release. The demo presents a unique sound that incorporates elements of retro aesthetics.
The synthesizer would be a perfect fit for genres like ambient music, experimental soundtracks, and video game soundtracks.
The names of the presets give a clue about the different styles they represent. Some of the preset names include echo dream, echo pendulum, foggy voices, slow choir, and washed choir.
At first glance, the interface for Glitch Pad presents a lot of information and features to absorb.
In terms of appearance and design, there are some areas that could be improved. However, considering that it is a free beta version, it is understandable that there may be limitations.
Towards the lower part of the user interface, you will find a keyboard and a preset selector. Just above that, there is a graphical depiction of the waveform.
According to the interface of the plugin, users will be able to engage in the beta testing for a period of two months, until the expiration date in March 2024.
It is uncertain whether the Glitch Pad will be offered as a paid product or released for free after the beta version, as NUSofting has previously released both paid and free software.
At the moment, NUSofting is offering discounts on some of their synthesizers. If you enjoy the sound, it would be worth exploring their other available products.
It is currently unclear if the synth will continue to be available for free once the beta period is over.

"It would be helpful if you mention in the title that this plugin is only compatible with Windows"… oh, you've already done that. Thank you, but unfortunately, it's too late. People complaining about it not being compatible with Apple devices in the comments has become a recurring joke on BPB.

This is an interesting and amusing tool. It has some good concepts, such as the functionality of the pitch envelope. It would greatly improve if it had a low-frequency oscillator (LFO) for each destination and more diverse shapes, including some unconventional ones, to enhance the randomization. Given that it is still in the beta stage, it is possible that these improvements are already being addressed. However, if they are not, it would be wonderful to see them implemented.

That's great! However, I have a complaint. I really miss the feature called "rewire." I believe that if rewired was still available, these beginner digital audio workstations would be much more beneficial. They could easily work alongside the DAWs we already use. I find it unbelievable that as technology advances, such a useful feature no longer exists and hasn't been adequately replaced. Yes, there are alternatives like Ableton Link or a Bluetooth plugin, but rewiring allowed us to send and receive MIDI and audio directly from the DAW without any issues or delays, while keeping everything in sync.
