  • by

You can save 95% on the Electronic Music Bundle from Universal Audio. The Crow Hill Company has recently launched Shimmer Guitar, a guitar sample library that is available for free. This is the fourth instrument to be released under the FREE Vaults series by The Crow Hill Company.

Christian Henson is the creator of The Crow Hill Company. If you are familiar with Christian's previous work with Spitfire Audio, you will find the free Vaults series to be similar in style. Recently, the company has launched Shimmer Guitar, which is the fourth instrument in the FREE Vaults series.

Currently, the Vault offers a total of four instruments that can be accessed for free. These instruments include Attic Grand, R+D Strings, Celestatone, and Shimmer Guitar.

All of these instruments, as well as previous releases from Spitfire Audio, share a common feature, which is their unique personality or character.

The uniqueness of the character often arises from the instrument being a distinct model, having a specific age, being recorded in a particular location, or a combination of these factors.

The shimmer guitar is created by combining an old guitar that has aged over time, a classic amplifier, and utilizing the facilities of a renowned orchestral recording studio.

The guitar used for recording was a Gibson Les Paul with a hollow-body design, even though it wasn't the initial intention. The original plan was to buy a vintage guitar on the same day of the recording, but a Kay semi-hollow-body electric guitar was ultimately chosen instead.

Although it may have seemed promising, the Kay had to be replaced with the Les Paul due to various technical difficulties. The Les Paul proved to be a suitable alternative, satisfying the requirement for a replacement

The capturing of the recording occurred at Lyndhurst Hall, which is located at AIR Studios in London. In order to accurately capture the essence and personality of the sound, a vintage Supro tube amp was used in conjunction with the Les Paul.

The Supro amplifier did not have any built-in effects, however, three Marshall stacks were placed on the upper level of the hall along with delay effects to create the desired atmosphere.

Similar to the other instruments in the Vaults collection, the Shimmer Guitar includes six macros. These macros consist of two larger central controls and four smaller ones located below them.

The main controls of this device are Filter, which is used for low-pass filtering, and Shimmer. The other controls include Drive, which adds a British-style distortion, Mod for flanging effects, Echo for delay effects, and Splosh. If desired, you can reverse the order of Echo and Splosh to have reverb applied before the delay effect.

Shimmer is the enchanting element that connects all aspects, and when you have the perfect combination of earthiness, spaciousness, atmosphere, and purity, it produces a truly remarkable sound.

I am enjoying the instruments in the Vault thus far, and I anticipate the inclusion of more unique and delightful additions, similar to Spitfire Audio's LABS collection.

If you haven't explored any of the content from Vaults yet, I suggest beginning with Attic Piano and gradually progressing to Shimmer Guitar – they are delightful complimentary items!

Take a look at this offer: The Shimmer Guitar is available for free to all members of the Crow Hill Company, as part of the Vaults plugins package deal.

Is LABS no longer active or alive?

Name

In response to the real question at hand, it appears that the subject in question is no longer alive.

The most recent release of LABS occurred 7 months ago, which is a departure from its usual monthly schedule. LABS was primarily driven by Christian, and without his presence, it appears to have lost momentum.

Soroosh

I don't believe there will be any new LABS releases, unless Henson decides to rejoin Spitfire Audio. However, I'm glad that he is carrying on the LABS tradition with Vaults. It has a similar appearance and functionality to LABS, and it seems like there will be many more patches available for it in the future.

MOD UPDATE: We kindly ask that you avoid engaging in political rants and insulting other BPB readers in the comments section. The internet can be a negative environment, but we strive to maintain a positive atmosphere on BPB. We wish peace and love to all.

Management Resource Group

Oh no! My cunning scheme to incite a revolution by manipulating a website's comment section has been foiled again. I must admit, you have outsmarted me. Impressive move, sir. Impressive indeed… *the sound of thunder can be heard in the distance*

My name is Łukasz

I'm wondering why you removed my comment regarding Christian being transphobic. I didn't say anything disrespectful; I just wanted to raise awareness about who people are choosing to support.

Sorry, but

Serious musicians prioritize the quality of their plugins and instruments over their origin. They have responsibilities, such as jobs and bills, that require their attention. Therefore, they do not have the luxury of concerning themselves with the opinions and personal lives of others.

The name Tomislav Zlatic.

Hello Łukasz, the article is about a virtual instrument that is free to use. Any comments that are about politics, including gender politics, or any other topics that are not related to music production will be removed. This is because these types of discussions often become heated and I do not want that on BPB. There are many other places where these topics can be discussed. My goal for BPB is to be a place where people, including myself, can learn about music, have enjoyable discussions with other music lovers, and find a peaceful escape from the negativity that is so prevalent on the internet. Thank you.
