Save 95% on the Electronic Music Bundle from Universal Audio. The Crow Hill Company has recently launched Shimmer Guitar, a guitar sample library that is available for free. This release marks the fourth instrument in the FREE Vaults series by The Crow Hill Company.
The Crow Hill Company was created by Christian Henson, who is known for his work with Spitfire Audio. If you are familiar with the free Vaults series from Spitfire Audio, you will find the new release of Shimmer Guitar from Crow Hill Company to be similar in concept. This instrument marks the fourth addition to the FREE Vaults series.
Currently, there are a total of four instruments available for free in the Vault. These include the Attic Grand, R+D Strings, Celestatone, and Shimmer Guitar.
All of these instruments, including previous releases from Spitfire Audio, share a common feature, which is that they each possess a unique personality or character.
The uniqueness of the character in a musical instrument usually arises from factors such as its distinct model, specific aging process, recording location, or a combination of these elements.
The shimmer guitar is created by using an older instrument that has been well-preserved, a classic amplifier, and being recorded in one of the most renowned orchestral recording studios globally.
Originally, the intention was to acquire a used vintage guitar for the recording session. However, this plan changed, and instead a hollow-body Gibson Les Paul was chosen. In the end, a Kay semi-hollow-body electric guitar was purchased for the purpose of recording.
Although it initially seemed promising, certain technical problems arose with the Kay, leading to its replacement with the Les Paul, which was considered a suitable and justifiable substitute.
The recording session occurred at Lyndhurst Hall in AIR Studios located in London. To truly capture the essence and unique qualities of the sound, they paired the Les Paul guitar with a classic Supro tube amplifier.
The Supro amplifier did not have any built-in effects, however, there were three Marshall stacks placed on the upper level of the hall that included delay effects to create the desired atmosphere.
Similar to the other musical instruments in Vaults, the Shimmer Guitar is equipped with six macros. These macros consist of two larger central controls and four smaller ones located below them.
The main controls of this device are Filter, which is a low-pass filter, and Shimmer. Additionally, there are other controls such as Drive, which adds a British-style dirt effect, Mod, which creates a flange effect, Echo, and Splosh. It is also possible to reverse the Echo and Splosh settings to apply reverb before the delay effect.
Shimmer is the mystical element that connects all things, and when you have the perfect combination of earthiness, openness, atmosphere, and purity, the resulting sound is truly breathtaking.
I am enjoying the instruments that are currently available in the Vault, and I anticipate that there will be even more unique and delightful additions in the future, similar to Spitfire Audio's LABS collection.
If you haven't explored anything from Vaults yet, begin with Attic Piano and gradually move on to Shimmer Guitar – they are delightful small gifts available for free!
Take a look at this offer: The Shimmer Guitar is available for free to all members of the Crow Hill Company as part of the Vaults plugins package.

Has LABS ceased to exist?

In response to the specific question, it appears that the subject is no longer alive.
It has been 7 months since the previous release of LABS, which used to occur on a monthly basis. LABS was primarily Christian's project, and since he is no longer involved, it seems that the initiative lost momentum and eventually ceased.

I don't believe there will be any new LABS releases unless Henson decides to come back to Spitfire Audio. However, I'm glad that he is carrying on the tradition with Vaults, which closely resembles LABS. It seems like there will be plenty of new patches released for it!

Oh no! My devious plan to incite a revolution by manipulating the comment section of a website has been foiled yet again. You have outsmarted me, sir. Bravo! *sound of distant thunder*

I am wondering why my comment about Christian being transphobic was removed. I didn't say anything offensive, I just wanted to raise awareness about who people are choosing to support.
I'm sorry
Musicians who are truly dedicated to their craft prioritize the quality of their plugins and instruments over their origin. They have responsibilities such as jobs and bills to take care of, leaving them with limited time to concern themselves with the opinions and personal lives of others.

Hello Łukasz, the article is about a virtual instrument that is available for free. Please refrain from making any comments about politics, including gender politics, or any other topics unrelated to music production. These types of discussions tend to become heated, and I do not want that on BPB. There are plenty of other platforms where such topics can be discussed. My goal for BPB is to create a space where people, including myself, can learn about music, engage in music-related discussions with fellow music enthusiasts, and find some respite from the toxicity that often exists on the internet. Thank you.
