Artificial intelligence (AI) is currently receiving a lot of attention. In addition to our previous discussion on free AI music generators, this technology is now also being utilized to create MIDI files, modify audio, and perform various other functions.
I have prior knowledge of the team at Axart Software because of their impressive mKer sequencer suite designed for the iPad. However, it came as a surprise to discover that they also offer an AI-powered drum sequencer for both Windows and Mac operating systems.
Although AutoBeat does offer a paid version, there is still a lot to discover and utilize with the free version. Therefore, let's delve deeper into its features and examine them closely.
Autobeat's main feature is its variety of genres that can be used to create drum beats. There are 8 different genres to choose from, including electronic genres such as house, techno, and DnB.
Additionally, there are a total of 12 tracks available to use, which should be sufficient for the majority of MIDI-based drum machines on both Windows and Mac. Personally, I utilized Autobeat in conjunction with Atlas, a software developed by Algonaut.
Since I was already using AI, I thought it would be best to fully commit and aim for the highest level of success.
You have the option to choose the thickness, size, and strength of each design. The randomization dial also adds a touch of organized disorder to the combination.
I discovered that setting it to approximately 25% yielded the best results, as I observed that things tended to become abstract too quickly otherwise.
With Autobeat's paid version, you have the ability to export MIDI to any drum machine plugin you prefer. If you are comfortable with routing MIDI, you will definitely enjoy this feature.
I appreciate the fact that you have the flexibility to customize things according to your workflow preferences. The interface is user-friendly and easy to understand, and you have the option to mute or solo individual tracks out of the 12 available. I tested it with Ableton Live 11 on a Dell G5s Ryzen 17 running Windows 10, with 16GB of RAM. I installed and activated a VST in a MIDI channel, and also added the Live Impulse drum application. I followed a video tutorial and discovered that I needed to route the MIDI channel to send data to the drum VST. I connected everything and pressed play, but there was no sound. I attempted the process again with a different application, hoping to assign the MIDI notes to the loaded samples, but still, there was no sound. I decided to uninstall the application. Instead, I found it quicker to manually load the VST3 and DLL files for Speedrum Lite, load them into Live, and create my own drum notes for a "random" pattern.
