I have previous knowledge of Axart Software through their impressive mKer sequencer suite designed for the iPad. However, it came as a surprise to discover that they also offer an AI-powered drum sequencer compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.
AutoBeat does offer a version that requires payment, however, there is still a lot to discover and enjoy with the free version. Therefore, let's delve further and examine its features.
The main focus of Autobeat is the ability to choose from a variety of genres to create drum beats. There are a total of 8 genres available, including electronic styles such as house, techno, and DnB.
Additionally, there are a total of 12 tracks available for you to utilize, which should be sufficient for the majority of MIDI-controlled drum machines that are compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Personally, I found it beneficial to combine Autobeat with Algonaut's Atlas software.
Since I already had the opportunity to use AI, I decided to fully embrace it and aim for the highest level of success!
You have the option to choose the thickness, size, and strength of each design. The randomization dial also adds a touch of organized disorder to the combination.
In my experience, I discovered that setting it to approximately 25% yielded the best results. Otherwise, I observed that things tended to become abstract rather rapidly.
With Autobeat's paid version, you have the option to export MIDI to any drum machine plugin you prefer. If you are comfortable with routing MIDI, then you are in for a pleasant experience.
I appreciate the flexibility of being able to customize the mapping of things according to my own workflow. The interface is user-friendly and easy to understand, and there are separate options to mute or solo each of the 12 tracks. Moreover, it is possible to save multiple patterns, with a total of 128 patterns being stored across 8 prompts.
If you're struggling with creativity when it comes to percussive elements, Autobeat is a great option to consider. However, it may require some adjustments to specifically focus on the elements of your Atlas kits that you want to improve on.
Once I figured it out and got it set up correctly, I was able to start quickly and efficiently.

This software is not functioning properly for me and causes my digital audio workstation (Samplitude) to freeze. It's frustrating, so I decided to uninstall it.

When using it in Ableton, the software generates MIDI data but does not produce any sound. Therefore, you must route the MIDI data into a new channel that contains a drum kit or virtual instrument in order to hear the sound.

I tested it using Ableton Live 11 on a Dell G5s Ryzen 17 with 16GB of RAM running Windows 10. I installed and loaded a VST in a MIDI channel, and also loaded a Live Impulse drum app. I followed a video tutorial and discovered that I needed to route the MIDI channel to connect with the drum VST. After linking and hitting play, I realized there was no sound. I attempted it again with a different app in order to assign the MIDI notes to the loaded samples, but still had no success. Ultimately, I uninstalled the software. It was quicker for me to manually load the VST3 and DLL Speedrum Lite, load it into Live, and manually create my own drum notes for a "random" pattern.
