Exploring AutoBeat: A Free AI Drum Sequencer Plugin for Windows and macOS

Save 95% on the Electronic Music Bundle by Universal Audio. Autobeat is an AI drum sequencer plugin that can be downloaded for free. Axart Software has recently launched AutoBeat, a drum sequencer plugin that is compatible with both Windows and macOS. While there is a paid version available, the free version can also be accessed.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is currently a popular trend. In addition to our previous coverage on AI music generators, this technology is now being applied to create MIDI files, edit audio, and various other purposes.

I have previous knowledge about Axart Software and their exceptional mKer sequencer suite designed for the iPad. However, it came as a surprise to me that they also offer an AI-powered drum sequencer for both Windows and Mac operating systems.

While AutoBeat does offer a paid version, there are still many features to discover and enjoy with the free version. Therefore, let's delve further into it and examine its offerings.

Autobeat has a central feature that offers a variety of music genres to create drum beats. Users can choose from eight different genres, including electronic styles such as house, techno, and DnB.

Additionally, there are a total of 12 tracks available for use, which should be sufficient for the majority of MIDI-based drum machines compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Personally, I found it beneficial to utilize Autobeat in conjunction with Algonaut's Atlas.

Since I had decided to use AI, I thought it would be best to fully embrace it and aim for the highest level of success possible.

You have the ability to choose the thickness, size, and strength of each design. The randomization dial also adds a touch of organized disorder to the combination.

In my experience, I discovered that setting it to approximately 25% yielded the best results. I observed that without this setting, things tended to become abstract very rapidly.

Autobeat offers a paid version that enables you to transfer MIDI files to your preferred drum machine plugin. If you are comfortable with the process of routing MIDI, then you will definitely enjoy this feature.

I appreciate the flexibility of being able to customize the mapping of things according to my workflow. The interface is user-friendly and easy to understand, with the option to mute or solo each of the 12 tracks individually. Moreover, it allows for storing numerous patterns, with a total of 128 patterns being stored across 8 prompts.

If you're struggling with creativity when it comes to percussive elements, Autobeat is a great option to try out. However, I did have to make some adjustments to specifically focus on the elements of my Atlas kits that I wanted to work on.

But once I got it figured out and set up correctly, I was ready to go and started moving quickly!

Autobeat can be used on both Windows and Mac computers. It is designed specifically for Apple Silicon, which is great to have.

When using it in Ableton, the software generates MIDI data but does not produce any sound. Therefore, you have to run it in a channel and direct the MIDI data into a separate channel that contains a drum kit or a VST instrument.

Hmm, now it has completely ceased to function.

This is not artificial intelligence in any way; it is simply a collection of patterns.

I tested it using Ableton Live 11 on a Dell G5s Ryzen 17 with 16GB of RAM running Windows 10. I installed and loaded a VST in a MIDI channel, as well as a Live Impulse drum app. I followed a video tutorial and discovered that I needed to route the MIDI channel to connect with the drum VST. However, when I linked everything and pressed play, there was no sound. I tried again with a different app in order to assign the MIDI notes to the loaded samples, but still no sound. I decided to uninstall the software. Instead, I found it quicker to manually load the VST3 and dll Speedrum Lite, load it into Live, and manually create my own drum notes for a "random" pattern.

The Axart website cannot be accessed anymore. This situation seems rather questionable…
