Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but there is no romantic relationship between them. Speculation arose about whether Nate Smith and the pop-punk icon Avril Lavigne could be the latest "it" couple from different genres. They were seen together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), however, a source who is close to one of them dismissed the rumors.
They are only acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released different paparazzi videos of Smith and Lavigne's outing, which appears to have involved a particular activity that aligns well with the image of the "Sk8er Boi" singer: skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne jumping out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith also appears, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne – she swiftly glides past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
The Hollywood Curtain captured a video of Smith and Lavigne leaving Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if both videos were recorded on the same evening, but both Smith and Lavigne seem to be wearing similar clothes. However, Lavigne had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were casually having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music collaborations.
It is not completely unexpected for Lavigne to be socializing with the country music community. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the list of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his latest song titled "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot on the charts.
