Wilson expressed his deep sadness and grief as he shared the devastating news of his wife's, Melinda's, passing. They had been married for 28 years, and Wilson described her as his beloved wife. He revealed that both he and their five children were overcome with tears and feeling completely lost. Melinda held a significant role in Wilson's life, as she not only served as his wife but also provided him with the emotional support and stability that allowed him to pursue his career.
In 1986, Melinda Ledbetter encountered Wilson when she was employed at a car dealership. During that period, Wilson, a prominent member of the Beach Boys, was undergoing a challenging phase in his life. He had previously undergone extensive drug treatment and was presently receiving round-the-clock psychiatric care due to persistent mental health problems.
Melinda played a significant role in transforming Wilson's life for the better. They developed romantic feelings for each other and tied the knot in 1995. Shortly after, she took on the responsibility of being his manager.

According to her interview with the Washington Post, she was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time to provide assistance to him. She compared the situation to the saying that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. She explained that he lacked a safe and supportive environment in the past, with his family, his former band, his doctor, and even his first wife. However, she emphasized that he has finally found that sense of security and support.
With the support and motivation from Melinda, Wilson found the inspiration to pursue his music career once again. A significant achievement was the completion of his previously abandoned album, Smile, which he released in 2004 under the title Brian Wilson Presents Smile.
There were people who were observing and analyzing Melinda's influence on Wilson's life, implying that she became overly assertive in pushing the musician to go on tour again. However, in his tribute after her passing, the rock star emphasized the significant influence his wife had on his professional journey.
