The topic of murder is often found in classic country songs, known as murder ballads. Although they are not as common in modern country music, there is still a collection of excellent songs about men killing their female romantic partners. We eliminated certain contenders for this list based on a few specific criteria. The topic was defined in a way that made it more specific and limited the options even more. In order for a murder song to be included on this list, it had to involve at least one male victim. Therefore, even though Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" is considered one of the best modern murder songs in the genre, it couldn't be included. Other notable mentions like Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love" also didn't make it onto this list for the same reason.
