Chilling Farewells: Unforgettable Final Concerts of Country Music Legends

  • by

There have been several memorable final concerts by notable artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was well aware that his last concert would be his final performance. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was unaware that it would be his last show, which adds an additional eerie quality to the song he decided to conclude the evening with.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a touching tale circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully exiting the stage. However, this account turned out to be false. Toby Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the person who deceived us into believing otherwise was also absent.

In reality, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the performance where Keith genuinely assisted Haggard in finishing. He simply learned about it from others.

Taste of Country found a review of what turned out to be Haggard's last concert and found a special moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

This video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance. It is a bittersweet collection of these memorable moments.

We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you are already acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," then you are aware of the impact it had. However, if you are not familiar with it, we urge you to continue watching.
