Earl Must Perish: The Finest 20 Country Songs Depicting the Act of Killing Your Partner
Murder ballads have always held a significant place in traditional country music. Although they may not be as common in modern times, there is still a remarkable collection of exceptional songs that portray men ending the lives of their female romantic partners. On the other hand, songs that depict women committing such acts are less frequent, but do not worry: Country music also offers a substantial number of songs that showcase women who take the life of their partners. And we have compiled a list to demonstrate it.
We had to consider certain parameters while creating this list, which eliminated some obvious choices. Our focus was on including only one song per artist, hence why Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, both well-known country stars with multiple murder songs in their repertoire, were only given one slot each. Songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all excellent revenge anthems, but in the end, there were other songs that were even more popular and deserving of a spot on the final list.
The criteria for this list was quite specific and required the murder songs to have at least one male victim. Unfortunately, Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine," which is considered one of the best modern murder songs in the genre, didn't meet this requirement. Other notable mentions include Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also didn't make it to this list.
Presented here is a remarkable and wicked compilation of the most powerful songs in country music that express the desire to harm or kill someone. Take a look at the images below to discover our selection of the finest revenge songs and hidden gems centered around the theme of murder, particularly targeting the man in one's life (or persuading someone else to commit the act on your behalf). Keep reading and don't forget to share in the comments if we overlooked your preferred track about eliminating your partner.
