Chilling Final Concerts: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More: A Tribute to Country Music Legends

  • by

There have been six haunting final concerts by legendary artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was unaware, adding an eerie quality to the song he performed to close the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, there circulated a compelling narrative suggesting that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully exiting the stage for the last time. However, this account turned out to be false. Keith was not present during Haggard's final performance, and neither was the individual responsible for deceiving us into believing otherwise.

In fact, the individual mentioned, actor W. Earl Brown, did not attend the event in which Keith actually provided assistance to Haggard. He had simply been informed about it.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of Haggard's last concert and found a special moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

Included in this poignant video are John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance.

Our preferred performance is the Singletary performance. If you are familiar with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," then you already know the significance of this. However, if you are not familiar, I encourage you to continue watching.
