There have been six concerts in history that were particularly haunting and served as the last performances for legendary artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was fully aware that his concert would be his final one. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary had no idea that his concert would be his last, which adds an eerie quality to the song he decided to close the night with.
Following the passing of Merle Haggard, there circulated a compelling narrative of how Toby Keith had assisted him in making his exit from the stage "with his dignity intact." However, it turned out that this account was completely false. Toby Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing so was also absent.
In fact, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith actually assisted Haggard in finishing. He had only heard about it.
Connected: 14 country music artists who should be given more recognition.
Taste of Country uncovered a review of Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of the six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and also shown in the pictures below).
Included in this melancholic video are John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance.
Our top choice is the Singletary performance. If you are already acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you can guess the outcome. However, if you are not familiar, we encourage you to continue watching.
