There have been six unforgettable final concerts that gave chills to the audience. Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and more have all had emotional last performances. George Jones was aware that his concert would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was unaware, adding an extra haunting element to the song he chose to conclude the night.
Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a touching anecdote circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully concluding his final performance. However, this account turned out to be false. Neither Keith nor the individual who deceived us into believing it was present during the Hag's last show.
In fact, the individual referred to as "that guy" or actor W. Earl Brown, did not attend the show where Keith genuinely assisted Haggard in finishing. He had only been informed about it by someone else.
Associated: 14 Country musicians who should be given greater recognition.
Taste of Country uncovered a review of what appears to be Haggard's last show and found a poignant moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in the pictures below).
This emotional video features John Denver's last live performance, Johnny Cash's final song, and Waylon Jennings' farewell performance made specifically for television.
Our preferred performance is the Singletary one. If you are aware of Johnny Paycheck's song called "Old Violin," you will understand the reference being made. However, if you are not familiar with it, I suggest you continue watching to find out.
