There have been six haunting final concerts by legendary artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his last performance was approaching, while Daryle Singletary was unaware. However, this lack of awareness only adds to the eerie atmosphere as Singletary selected a particularly haunting song to conclude his last show.
Following the passing of Merle Haggard, there was a widely circulated narrative about Toby Keith assisting him in ending his career on a high note. However, this account turned out to be false. Contrary to popular belief, Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the individual who misled us into believing he was there was also absent.
In fact, the person mentioned as actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in completing his performance. He had only heard about it.
Associated: 14 Country musicians who should be given greater recognition
Taste of Country uncovered a review of what turned out to be Haggard's last performance and found a heartwarming moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert, which are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).
Included in this poignant video are John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.
We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you are already acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's "Old Violin," then you already know the amazing way he performed it. But don't worry if you're not familiar, just continue watching and you'll see what we mean.
