Nate Smith and Avril Lavigne: Just Friends or the Newest Cross-Genre “It” Couple?

  • by

Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but they are not in a romantic relationship. There were speculations that they could be the latest "it" couple, but a reliable source close to one of them has denied these rumors.

They are simply acquaintances.

Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released different videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together, in which they were seen engaging in an activity that aligns perfectly with Lavigne's image as the "Sk8er Boi" singer: They decided to go skateboarding.

A video from TMZ captures Lavigne getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his usual leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's obvious that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. She zooms past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the truck for support.

Footage from the Hollywood Curtain captures the couple leaving Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if both videos were recorded on the same evening, but Smith and Lavigne seem to be dressed similarly. However, Lavigne would have had to take off her black hoodie before departing from dinner.

According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music projects.

Lavigne's collaboration with the country music community does not come as a complete surprise. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform their renditions of "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Additionally, Lavigne was invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she paid homage to fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by singing Twain's hit song "No One Needs to Know."

Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his most recent song, "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot at No. 1.
