Nate Smith and Avril Lavigne: Just Friends or the Next Cross-Genre Power Couple?

  • by

There have been sightings of Nate Smith spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, leading some to speculate that they might be a new cross-genre power couple. However, a source who knows one of them well has debunked these rumors, stating that there is no romantic involvement between the two. They were simply seen together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29).

They are simply companions who have a friendly relationship.

Smith and Lavigne's hangout was captured on camera by both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ. The footage showed that they engaged in an activity that perfectly aligns with Lavigne's image as a "Sk8er Boi" singer – they went skateboarding.

In a video captured by TMZ, Avril Lavigne is seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck in a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. As Lavigne effortlessly zooms past him on the sidewalk, Smith struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck to support himself.

The footage from the Hollywood Curtain captures Smith and Lavigne leaving Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain whether both videos were recorded on the same night. However, Smith and Lavigne seem to be dressed similarly in both videos, although Lavigne would have had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt after their meal.

According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music projects.

It's not surprising that Lavigne is interacting with the country music community. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."

Regarding Smith, he is presently making significant progress on the rankings of country radio with his newest track, "World on Fire." This song comes after his initial chart-topping hit, "Whiskey on You."
