Earl Must Perish: The Top 20 Country Songs Depicting the Act of Killing Your Significant Other
Traditional country music has a strong tradition of murder ballads, although they are not as common in today's music landscape. However, there is still a collection of outstanding songs that revolve around men murdering their female romantic partners. On the other hand, songs portraying women committing acts of murder are less common but fear not, because the country genre also offers a good number of such songs and we have compiled a list to showcase them.
To narrow down the list, we set a few limitations. We decided to include only one song per artist, so even though Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have multiple murder songs in their collections, they were only given one spot each. Although songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are excellent revenge anthems, they were ultimately excluded from the final selection due to the presence of even more popular songs.
The theme was focused on murders with male victims, which eliminated songs like "Martha Divine" by Ashley McBryde, "Red Headed Stranger" by Willie Nelson, and "If It Hadn't Been for Love" by The SteelDrivers from consideration for the list.
What remains is an incredibly impressive and wicked collection of the most impactful songs in country music that revolve around killing someone. Take a look at the images below to discover our choices for the top revenge tracks and lesser-known gems that center on the topic of murder, particularly the act of killing your significant other (or persuading someone else to do it for you). Keep reading and don't forget to share in the comments if we overlooked your favorite song about getting rid of your man.
