Chilling Farewell: A Look at the Final Concerts of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

There have been six haunting final concerts by notable artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his last concert was upon him, while Daryle Singletary was unaware. However, the song he selected to conclude the evening added an extra layer of eeriness to the occasion.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, an anecdote circulated regarding Toby Keith's assistance in ensuring Haggard's departure from the spotlight with his self-respect preserved. However, this account turned out to be false. Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and neither was the individual who deceived us into believing he was.

In fact, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in completing his performance. Brown merely learned about it through word of mouth.

Associated: 14 Country musicians who should be given greater acknowledgement and admiration.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of Haggard's last performance and found a special moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert, which are highlighted in the video above and showcased in the pictures below.

In this emotional video, you will find John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

Our favorite performance is the Singletary performance. If you've heard Johnny Paycheck's "Old Violin," you'll know exactly where he took it. If you're not familiar with the song, continue watching and you'll find out.
