Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock artist Avril Lavigne, but they are not in a romantic relationship. Speculation arose when the two were spotted together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), but a reliable source who knows one of them has denied the rumors.
They are simply acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ each released their own footage taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together. It appears that their hangout involved a particular activity that perfectly aligns with the image of the "Sk8er Boi" singer: They decided to go skateboarding.
In a video released by TMZ, Avril Lavigne is seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot. She has a skateboard in hand. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black ball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. As Lavigne zooms past him on the sidewalk, Smith struggles to keep up and leans on the side of the truck for support.
Footage captured from the Hollywood Curtain captures the couple exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if both videos were recorded on the same evening, although Smith and Lavigne seem to be dressed similarly. However, Lavigne would have had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends and possibly to talk about potential new music collaborations.
Lavigne's involvement with the country music community is not completely unexpected. In 2023, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage at the CMA Fest to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the list of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she paid tribute to fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by performing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest single, "World on Fire." This song comes after his initial breakthrough hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot on the charts.
