Chilling Final Concerts: A Look at the Farewell Performances of Country Music Legends Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

There have been six haunting final concerts by notable artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was unaware, which adds to the eerie atmosphere of the song he performed to close the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, there circulated a compelling narrative about Toby Keith's assistance in ensuring Haggard's departure from the music scene was honorable. However, this account turned out to be false. Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and neither was the individual responsible for deceiving us into believing otherwise.

In fact, the person being referred to as "that guy" is actor W. Earl Brown, who wasn't present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in finishing. He had simply been informed about it.

Taste of Country found a review of Haggard's last concert and uncovered a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

Included in this melancholic video are John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you are already acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's "Old Violin," you are aware of the place where he ended it. However, if you are not familiar with it, continue watching and you will find out.
