There have been six haunting final concerts that left a lasting impact on the music industry. One of them was performed by the legendary Merle Haggard, while another was by the iconic Johnny Cash. Surprisingly, Daryle Singletary was unaware that his last concert would be his final one, and it is this unknowingness that adds an even more chilling effect to the song he decided to conclude his performance with.
Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a heartwarming tale circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully exiting the stage. However, this account turned out to be false. Toby Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing this was also absent.
In fact, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith actually assisted Haggard in finishing. He simply became aware of it through word of mouth.
Associated: 14 Country musicians who should be given more recognition.
Taste of Country uncovered a review of what turned out to be Haggard's last live performance. In addition to the Toby Keith hero story, there was another significant and touching moment that deserves equal recognition. This is one of the six lasting memories from his final concert, which can be seen in the video above and in the pictures below.
Included in this poignant video are John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.
Our preferred performance is the Singletary one. If you are already acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you know the point at which he left it. However, if you are not familiar with it, I encourage you to continue watching.
