6 Chilling Final Concerts from Country Music Legends: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More

  • by

There have been several haunting final concerts by notable artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and more. George Jones was aware that his last concert would be his final performance. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was unaware of this fact, making the song he selected to conclude the evening even more eerie.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a compelling narrative emerged suggesting that Toby Keith had played a role in ensuring Haggard's departure from the stage maintained his dignity. However, this account turned out to be false. Contrary to popular belief, Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and neither was the individual responsible for deceiving us into believing otherwise.

In fact, the individual mentioned, actor W. Earl Brown, did not attend the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in completing his performance. He only learned about it through word of mouth.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of Haggard's last concert and found a significant moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert, which are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

Included in this melancholic video are John Denver's last live performance, Johnny Cash's final song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance.

Our preferred performance is the Singletary one. If you are acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song called "Old Violin," you can anticipate the level of excellence he achieved. However, if you are not familiar with it, I encourage you to continue watching as it is worth your time.
