Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but they are not in a romantic relationship. There was speculation about them becoming a popular couple across different music genres, but a reliable source close to one of them has confirmed that this is not true. They were spotted together in Los Angeles on Monday night, January 29th.
They are simply friends.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released their own paparazzi videos of Smith and Lavigne's get-together, showcasing an activity that perfectly aligns with the image of the "Sk8er Boi" singer: skateboarding.
In a video captured by TMZ, Lavigne is seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot. She is holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne — she quickly glides past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
The footage from the Hollywood Curtain captures the couple leaving Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain whether the two videos were recorded on the same night, but both Smith and Lavigne are seen wearing similar attire. However, Lavigne would have had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were seen having dinner together, but it was clarified that they were just friends and possibly meeting up to talk about upcoming music collaborations.
It is not completely unexpected for Lavigne to be socializing with the country music community. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the lineup of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain with a performance of Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Regarding Smith, he is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his most recent track titled "World on Fire." This song comes after his initial chart-topping hit called "Whiskey on You."
