Chilling Farewell: A Look at 6 Final Concerts from Country Music Legends

  • by

There have been six haunting final concerts that have left a lasting impact on fans. Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary are among the artists who performed during their last shows. George Jones, who was aware that it would be his final concert, delivered a memorable performance. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was unaware of the significance of his last performance, which adds an eerie feeling to the song he selected to

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a heartwarming anecdote circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in gracefully exiting the stage for the last time. However, this story turned out to be false. Contrary to popular belief, neither Keith nor the individual who deceived us were present during Haggard's final performance.

In fact, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the performance where Keith actually assisted Haggard in finishing. He had simply heard about it.

Taste of Country found a review of Haggard's last concert and uncovered a special moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of the six memories from the final concert that are highlighted in the video above (and in the pictures below).

Included in this emotionally poignant video are the last performance by John Denver, the final song by Johnny Cash, and the made-for-TV swan song by Waylon Jennings.

We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you've heard Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you'll know exactly what we're talking about. And if you haven't, don't worry, just keep watching and you'll find out.
