Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock artist Avril Lavigne, but it seems like they are not in a romantic relationship. The two were spotted together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), but a reliable source close to one of them denies any possibility of a romantic connection.
They are only acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ posted different videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne spending time together, and it appears that they engaged in an activity that perfectly aligns with the image of the "Sk8er Boi" singer: skateboarding.
In a video posted by TMZ, Lavigne is seen getting off the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot. She is holding a skateboard. Soon after, Smith also appears, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. As Lavigne swiftly glides past him on the sidewalk, Smith struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
Footage captured by the Hollywood Curtain depicts Smith and Lavigne exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It remains uncertain whether the two videos were recorded during the same evening. However, both Smith and Lavigne are seen dressed in similar attire, though Lavigne had to remove her black hooded sweatshirt prior to departing from the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about potential new music projects.
Lavigne's involvement with the country music community shouldn't come as a complete surprise. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Additionally, Lavigne was invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by singing a rendition of Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Regarding Smith, he is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his most recent song, "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot on the charts.
